San Francisco: Kayak Books, 1969.

8vo.; in printed wrappers; minor stains to covers and spine faded.

First edition, one of 800 copies. Inscribed to Muldoon: “for Paul / from Tess via Ciarán [Carson?]”.

Skelton is credited as the translator of the French surrealist poet Goerges Zuk, who is described in the introduction of this volume as follows: “The work of Georges Zuk is known only to a very few, for this extraordinary man has chosen to conduct his poetic career in almost complete secrecy.” Rightly so: because Zuk was an alter ego of Skelton’s. He published two other collections under this name: The Underwear of the Unicorn by Georges Zuk (1975) and Zuk (1982). This copy is illustrated in the collage style of the French surrealists and printed on light-blue, green, and white paper.
