Theodore Klemens, Jr., better-known as Ted Klemens, was a reporter and hack writer for the Daily News, NBC, and a variety of other publications. He has left virtually no digital footprint. This archive of his correspondence with his dear friend Hunter S. Thompson, however, spans from February 1964 to January 1966 and provides a vivid snapshot of his life and concerns during this period. Some 15 letters and postcards reveal his experiences and challenges, from humorous anecdotes about dealing with the phone company to urgent requests for assistance, such as finding an abortion clinic in Mexico.

Throughout the correspondence, Klemens shares his thoughts on various topics, from movie recommendations to his career aspirations. His letters also reflect the evolving nature of his personal relationships, including a breakup with his girlfriend. They offer a glimpse into Klemens' daily life, his financial struggles, and his efforts to navigate both professional and personal challenges.
