Four Volumes from the Citizens of Boston.

$0.00

These four books are the remnants of a substantial library of over 2,000 volumes the leading citizens of Boston bestowed on the military hero of the Union. It was not the only gift Grant received from a grateful nation. Philadelphians bought him a handsome house, but when the General decided he needed to live in Washington, his wealthy friends ponied up for a new residence in Georgetown. Congress provided the greatest honor of all: it made him General of the Army, a rank only George Washington himself had previously held.
